SALPAC Emballage, a folding carton converter based in Béjaïa, Algeria, has expanded its die-cutting capacity with the installation of a new BOBST NOVACUT 106 E 3.0. The investment forms part of a broader modernization programme launched in 2025, with a total value of €2.5 million aimed at renewing and upgrading the company’s printing and converting equipment.

Founded in 1967 by Tayeb Akouche, SALPAC has developed its production capabilities over several decades and has maintained a technology partnership with BOBST since 1968. The latest installation supports the company’s efforts to address increasing market requirements for quality, production efficiency and lead-time reliability.

SALPAC serves sectors including food and beverage, fast-moving consumer goods and pharmaceuticals, where consistency and precision in carton production are important operational requirements. The company said the new die-cutter was selected to help manage higher production volumes while reducing downtime and maintaining output quality.

According to the company, initial operating results indicate productivity improvements of between 20% and 30%, together with a 25% reduction in makeready times and approximately 15% fewer machine stoppages. Improved die-cutting precision has also contributed to a reduction in material waste of around 10%.

The installation was supported by BOBST technical teams through operator training and start-up assistance to facilitate commissioning and integration into production operations.

The latest investment builds on a long history of BOBST equipment at SALPAC. Earlier installations included a PCR 880 high-speed folder-gluer and an Autoplaten SP 900 die-cutting press, followed by a NOVACUT 106 E installed in 2013. The company has also expanded its folder-gluer operations with VISIONFOLD 110 and AMBITION 76 systems.

Commenting on the investment, Khaled Akouche, Chairman and CEO of SALPAC Emballage, said: “Our partnership with BOBST is built for the long term and represents a key driver of our growth. With the NOVACUT 106 E, we are significantly improving our converting efficiency while further strengthening our quality standards.”
